Saying farewell to a family home
The Unclutterer recently had a great post on downsizing. This can be an overwhelming task to be sure. One of the most beneficial approaches is to proactively decide what to do with items that will no longer be needed. My in-laws are great at this. They see downsizing in their future and are slowly giving away stuff they won’t need.
Stashmate allows users to designate who gets what in this type of situation. The unclutterer advises:
“If family and friends are interested in some of the personal items in the current home, only let the person or persons who are downsizing decide what pieces go to whom. Try your best not to let the person moving spaces be bullied into decisions. When financially valuable items are involved, you can contact an appraiser to provide information so the best decisions are made for the person downsizing.”
Downsizing can be difficult both emotionally and physically, but it can also be an opportunity to bless others in the process. Using a tool like Stashmate allows downsizers to share photos of belongings for family in remote places and make downsizing easier for everyone involved.
