Saying farewell to a family home

The Unclutterer recently had a great post on downsizing. This can be an overwhelming task to be sure. One of the most beneficial approaches is to proactively decide what to do with items that will no longer be needed. My in-laws are great at this. They see downsizing in their future and are slowly giving away stuff they won’t need.

Stashmate allows users to designate who gets what in this type of situation. The unclutterer advises:

“If family and friends are interested in some of the personal items in the current home, only let the person or persons who are downsizing decide what pieces go to whom. Try your best not to let the person moving spaces be bullied into decisions. When financially valuable items are involved, you can contact an appraiser to provide information so the best decisions are made for the person downsizing.”

Downsizing can be difficult both emotionally and physically, but it can also be an opportunity to bless others in the process. Using a tool like Stashmate allows downsizers to share photos of belongings for family in remote places and make downsizing easier for everyone involved.

If you’re going to have toys, you might as well have a nice place to keep them. All that’s missing is a lid.

For those of you on the move check out usedcardboardboxes.com for low cost, reused boxes. If you’ve just moved, sell your old boxes instead of recycling them.
They’ve saved 15, 163 trees and counting.

Photographing what you own. Possibly a trend?

It seems more and more people are photographing their belongings. In this case, Wellington Grey uses his camera as a decluttering tool in preparation for a long trip. See his before and after photos and read his story.

The BBC Records the Worlds Stuff
The way I figure it this is the world’s Stashmate. It’s a record of all the important stuff from the beginning of history. The great thing is anyone can add to the record.

Hey guys, check out my fancy unboxing video of the new Apple Magic Mouse!

Loved this.

As did I. Just as much as I love the Mighty Mouse itself. It really is far superior to any other mouse I’ve used. The low profile keeps your wrist straight and the touch area is great for getting around in photoshop documents.
